Brief Description: The main content of the course is devoted to the study of theoretical grammar as a science and its place in the general theory of language: The main sections of grammar are considered: Morphology and Syntax, their connection, basic morphological and syntactic, grammatical concepts. The theory of parts of speech, criteria for their differentiation, history of classification of parts of speech. The subject of the syntax and the main tasks of the syntax, syntactic concepts. The morpheme and the word, as well as parts of speech, the history of the classification are like units of morphology. Phrases and sentences as syntax units. Text, modern text theories. The lexico - grammatical and syntactic ways of text coherence are considered.

The Purpose of the discipline: Upon completion this course students must demonstrate through classroom discussions and exams an enhanced understanding:

1. Grammatical structure of English 

2. Notion of grammatical and lexical meaning of words.

3. Morphological characteristics of notional and structural parts of speech.

4. Definition of finite and non-finite verbs. (verbals) .

5. The branch of theoretical grammar- Syntax 

6. The object of syntax- sentence. Types and structures of sentences.

7. Modal verbs in suppositional sentences.
